In 1934 the Malay Commissioners of Currency was formed in order to provide a single economic unit for the Straits Settlements
guaranteed by the Malayan Governments. Coins were first produced for the Commission in 1939 with the twenty cent first struck
that year bearing a similar design to the previous Straits' pieces. The reverse features
a double inner circle with 20 CENTS in the middle and the legend, COMMISSIONERS OF CURRENCY
MALAYA.The series is relatively easy to complete with an exception of the 1945 Bombay mint issue
which is often skipped due to its rarity. The remainder of the series is easy to source in mint state
though some patience will be required if higher mint state grades are sought. In 1948, the legend
was simplified due to the independence of India in 1947.
